"Relentless Passion" @ Christian Bloggers Go Viral

"Ideas that spread, win." -Seth Godin

Last Thursday I attended the first Christian Bloggers Go Viral, a bloggers initiative organized by Pastor Dennis Sy of Victory Christian Fellowship in Greenhills. I first read about it in Ganns Deen's blog, and my first thought about it was that it would be awesome to learn many things about blogging and beyond, and at the same time meet fellow Filipino Christians in the discipline. Pastor Dennis invited SEO specialist Sean Si and digital marketer Carlo Ople to trade SEO and blogging secrets with the participants.

"Ideas that spread, win." This holds true for me (with regard to anything), especially having worked in the advertising industry (well, kala mo expert, one year lang naman) and as a blogger.

I write to be read. I've never kept a super secret diary because I've always enjoyed sharing my ideas. (Now they're not always good ideas, but the bad ones do come with helpful lessons most of the time.) I like discovering that someone else shares my thoughts on certain things and also being at the giving end.

Ideas are meant to be shared. There's even a verse in the Bible that words this very sensibly: "No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead he puts it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light." (Luke 11: 33, NIV)

And as Christians, we have a really good message that everyone needs to know. Our message is more than an idea, it's truth. We have a message of hope and love. Our message is life-changing.

Sean Si @ Christian Bloggers Go Viral

Sean Si presented first and he talked about "how to make your website visible online". He gave an orientation on SEO (what it's for and why bother), before giving tips on on-page and off-page optimization. He said a lot of technical stuff (coding and all that) that I did manage to write down but sorry, I don't know how to explain it here, haha. (Just visit his blog SEO Hacker. I think it's all there.)

He did drop three rules I can share with all y'all:
1. Don't write for search engines.
2. Optimize your websites naturally.
3. Start with the basics.

Carlo Ople @ Christian Bloggers Go Viral
The Superman doodle at the start of this post was part of Carlo Ople's presentation. He talked mostly about digital marketing, which is in many ways similar to blogging. We are selling ideas, we are establishing brands (ourselves). All the same.

He shared a video about social media (I forgot the title, sorry) that presented amazing figures (how many people are on Twitter and Facebook every day, etc). The key thought: with millions of people online every day, how much do you share in the traffic? There is a huge global audience.

He talked about finding niche, and encouraged us to ponder on two questions:
1. What do you really want to get out of life?
2. What can you offer the world that no one else can?

Well, I haven't really figured it out yet, as you may have already noticed around here, haha, but I'll get to that soon.

"Find this!" @ Christian Bloggers Go Viral

Thank you, Pastor Dennis, for blessing us with this opportunity to learn from industry experts and meet fellow Christians in the local blogosphere. Thank you, Mr Sean Si and Mr Carlo Ople as well, for the tips. (Oh and hello hello to Ms Reg and Nats and Najee of Becca Music's SAVED Magazine, was great seeing you again!)
