Sprout | Awesome in Manila

I can live here.

I definitely wouldn't be eating what they serve all the time (I love bacon too much #sorrynotsorry) but I really think it's humanly possible for me to spend days on end inside Sprout, just Instagramming the crap out of all the pretty. I would prolly only step out for quick McDonald's runs and bathroom-related activities. (There is another Erwan Heussaff venture in the area that can accommodate the latterSabao, a soup bar with a mission to take Filipino soupery to the next level. They're kind enough to let non-customers use the loo.) Otherwise, I would do well just carrying on with personal and professional laundry lists from the comforts of their bright-colored stools.

In essence, Sprout is a self-service convenience store / dine-in place that offers fresh and healthy fare. The ingredients they use for all the wraps and sandwiches and salads and noodles (all daily-made, under the supervision of Chef Cheska Carino) are sourced locally. They also serve an interesting selection of juices, energy shots and sweets.

If you're a health nut, Sprout makes it easier for you to make decisions by having a comprehensive, touch screen, by-the-counter menu for your perusal. It's completely programmed with product ingredients, nutritional information and macro-nutrient counters (for those who keep a close watch on carbs and calories). Sprout really is freshness on the go, marking its sweet spot at the heart of the Makati CBD. Judging by its interiors, choice of influencers and product price range, the shop is hoping to attract a market that is a bit aspirational (hint: more open to spend for healthier choices).

Case in point: This little jar of Milk Tea sells at P120. Compared to what your everyday tea place offers, Sprout's is considerably smaller in serving size. From the taste alone, you can also tell that it's substantially healthier. I could make out a subtle bitterness from the tea, blending beautifully with rich, creamy milk. It's a clean and refreshing taste, not drowned by artificial flavors. Believe it or not, I had so many good feelings after this drink that I just had to get an extra 20 minutes on the mat when I got home. Not even kidding.

Their Grilled Cheese Sandwich (P175) is worthy of note, too. If you're a cheese lover, take heart, for Sprout does not hold back on dairy.

And just so we can better understand Sprout's passion for fresh and healthy, here's a photo of their wall taking a (funny) stab at fast food:

I pass by this place on my way home all the time but I've never gone inside. Curious, though!!!

  3. Interiors are really inviting! In terms of food choices, they don't offer that much yet but the ones that they do have are interesting. For one, Sprout carries Stanford & Shaw's ginger ale which, I believe, is a city Sunday market favorite!

  5. It looks super pretty!!!! I haven't been to Sprout yet, but I've passed by once when I got lost in Makati (lol).

If I was in the area, I might want to live on the place too. :D

  6. As long as you don't find yourself in the Pasong Tirad and Burgos areas, Makati is a great city to get lost in. Lots of interesting discovers in Salcedo and Legaspi, in particular. :D

  7. Cool. I already downloaded both of them. The Airbag Regular free font can only be downloaded in uppercase though. :) Thanks for sharing.

  9. This place would definitely save me from grabbing all the unhealthy and unnecessary food in the market. I wish they got it here, or something similar. I seldom find healthy snack stores in our place, and it gets ridiculously hard with my self-imposed diet. Haha. Those words at the last really have a point, I got a humorous laugh out of it. Haha

  11. I wish the food was cheaper! But then again, you can't put a price tag on health. Who knows? If Sprout finally gains some mileage here in Metro Manila, they'd consider opening in other parts of the country too. :)
